Understanding the difference between wallpaper pattern matches will help you understand how the application process will go, as well as determine how much wallpaper you should order. Pattern match, in wallpaper terms, is specifically speaking about how you will be lining up your pattern to the wall.
There are 2 main types of matches: Straight and Drop Match. Read more about each below, as well as, tips on working with each!
STRAIGHT MATCH
This match means that all the strips/panels will line up the same at the ceiling line.
Tips For Applying Straight Match Prints
• Pre-cut your panels prior to help minimize waste
• Round up in your order. Because you have to line up this pattern both horizontally and vertically, you will have more waste. If you do not feel you need to order more, please keep note of your LOT NUMBER when you receive your rolls in case you have to re-order. Lot numbers can be found on the label of each roll, near the barcode.
DROP MATCH
This match means that every other strip/panel will line up the same at the top of the ceiling line. The patterns of drop match designs must be lined up both vertically and horizontally.
2 TYPES OF DROP MATCH Half Drop | Multiple Drop
A drop match refers to when the print within the panel will run diagonally across the wall. It takes 3 strips/panels to complete the design.
A multiple drop match is when it would take four or more strips/panels to repeat the pattern
Tips For Applying Drop Match Prints
• Pre-cut your panels prior to help minimize waste
• Work with 2 rolls side by side to avoid waste
• Round up in your order. Because you have to line up this pattern both horizontally and vertically, you will have more waste. If you do not feel you need to order more, please keep note of your LOT NUMBER when you receive your rolls in case you have to re-order. Lot numbers can be found on the label of each roll, near the barcode.
